Latourell Falls in Oregon’s Columbia River Gorge

Latourell Falls, one of the most striking waterfalls in Oregon’s Columbia River Gorge, is a must-see for anyone exploring the Pacific Northwest. The falls are within Guy W. Talbot State Park and a short drive from Portland. This 224-foot cascade plunges dramatically over a basalt cliff, making it a favorite for photographers and nature lovers alike. 

A short and easy paved trail leads to an excellent viewpoint near the base, perfect for those wanting a quick stop. We visited in the middle of summer and had the entire view to ourselves for nearly the entire time we were there. We only stayed about 15 minutes. 

 For those looking for a longer, more intimate hike, there is a 2.4-mile loop. This unpaved trail climbs about 600 feet along the east side of Latourell Creek and offers closer views of the falls and lush forest. 

Whether you’re road-tripping the Historic Columbia River Highway or seeking a peaceful nature walk, Latourell Falls is a destination that blends accessibility with unforgettable scenery.
