President Woodrow Wilson’s Grave at the National Cathedral

The National Cathedral in Washington, D.C., is home to the final resting place of the 28th President of the United States, Woodrow Wilson. While not a destination stop for most people visiting our nation’s capital, it is certainly worth a stop if you have time. 

We visited on a quiet weekday afternoon. We weren’t the only ones there, but it was still not even close to being busy. Walking through the grand Gothic-style cathedral, you can’t help but be struck by the soaring stained-glass windows and intricate stonework before descending into the chapel’s hushed atmosphere. 

By itself, the National Cathedral is an incredible place to visit, and President Wilson and his wife Edith’s tomb simply adds to the experience. Wilson is the only president buried in the nation’s capital. His tomb rests in the cathedral’s nave.

Wilson’s marble sarcophagus bears his name and dates, a simple yet dignified tribute to the man who led the nation through World War I and championed the League of Nations.

The National Cathedral is an active place of worship, a national landmark, and a stunning example of sacred art and architecture in the heart of D.C.
